Here at MicroForests, we often meet people that are interested in Social Enterprises, but aren’t sure who our beneficiaries are and who are clients are. Today, we’d love to talk about What Makes MicroForests Special.
Here are our favourite things about our mission to empower women and “stay at home” mothers in Hong Kong.
- BUILDING CONFIDENCE. We are fully dedicated to this mission. By providing the skills and training of a MicroForests Designer, these women slowly but surely regain their confidence and self-pride through their work. Low-education backgrounds generally only allow for low-education jobs such as dishwashers and janitors. MicroForests helps our Mothers overcome these “limitations” and trains them to become Designers. This is a job they can do artistically, with pride!
- PROVIDING TRAINING. MicroForests also provides vocational training such as computer classes and English classes, for more transferable skills. Even if our Mothers would like to move on from our mission, we equip them with skills such as communication and presentation skills that will benefit them in their ongoing career.
- DEVELOPING A SUPPORT NETWORK. MicroForests is also a network for women to meet other women in similar situations. This becomes their main support group in which they build trust and friendship. The Mothers actually take turns taking care of their children as well when they go to work!
- CREATING FLEXIBLE JOB OPPORTUNITIES. Our Mother Trainees and Designers are first and foremost Mothers to their children. Their families are their priorities, and we create jobs in which they could bring their kids to work or bring the work home to work from home!
Our mission is simple: empower women to regain their confidence, dignity, and most importantly, their well-being! Support MicroForests and mission to fight this social problem in Hong Kong.
